Read whole post before commenting - thanx =)
Hey, today i checked out the NFSC online. It's full of cheaters (blame EA) and the system is very similar to the system introduced in NFS Underground. I guess that very little has to be changed in the original NFS Carbon Server as published on http://3priedez.net/nfsu/ - the game uses a certain hostname which can be overwritten in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file to the desired server where you would run your custom server.
But the game uses diffrerent ports than NFSU:
| Quote: |
Q. What ports are used during online play?
According to NFS Carbon manual the game uses the following ports:
* TCP: 18210, 18215, 13505
* UDP (outgoing) 18215, 20000-22000
* UDP (incoming) 3658
For best performance make sure you disable any filesharing, videostreaming and similar programs. Also you may have to allow the game to access these ports on your firewall, alternatively forward them from the router to the appropriate computer.

I analyzed the packets with Wireshark (an Ethereal successor), but i am really new into this, but i still think that making the NFS Carbon LAN Server is still possible.
I wonder if the author ( http://3priedez.net/log/ ) of the original will try to look at it and make a nfsc lan server =)
that would rock!

| i'm 99% sure that nothing big has changed since nfsu and nfsu2. but there is a problem. since nfsu2 ea started to use ssl on connection. i spent one day trying to trick nfsc to use custom ssl server but somehow it didnt work out. nfsc connects to server, gets certificate from server and then just leaves connection open and do nothing. either nfsc checks for certificate (like issuer, date, some checksums) or ea changed something in their ssl implementation (i doubt coz browser understands ea's ssl server and shows certificate). if i got some free time for this i'll try again focusing on whether nfsc checks for certificate strings. |

The Carbon online core is = MW,NFSU1,2 cores ..... Only thing EA is doing is to force autentication, it works same way u create a LAN game in NFSU2 with password protection, but instead u autenticate in Local server, u have to autenticate in EA server; now, how to bypass this aut. ?? cause in this case the real server is ur personal machine anyway, u just use EA game room.If we were possible to just redirect auten. to lacal machine, bang!!! How to do this??Maybe, create a sql server that someway clone EA file bank and run it onto ur PC, after taht, redirect autent. to new hostname u create "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts".. enable ports...
Still trying..
Please post news!!!! |

the hamachi.cc forum has this for nfsu2...
there may be some useful info... namely the files server.dll and server.cfg in the nfsc directory leads to speculation that the functionality is in the game (however the language files does not have any linkage to "LAN" or "Lobby" =(

Okay well after hours of fiddling with VPN and watching ports and processes and etc
I got NFSU2 Working on Hamachi. Its rather simple, In your Need for speed Underground Directory.
*\Program Files\EA GAMES\Need for Speed Underground 2\
There is a file called server.cfg. Open this With Notepad. Right at the bottom there is
DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING UNDER THIS LINE. Your going to ignore this Very Happy Right at the bottom is the line
ADDR=%%bind("159.153.253.82")
Remove it completely. Then your CFG file should look like this.
server.cfg wrote:
| Code: |
#
# The server sends a ping message to the client every PINGTIME seconds
# and the client is expected to respond within PINGWAIT seconds or
# the server considers the connection to be dead and the client is
# logged out.
#
PINGTIME=20
PINGWAIT=30
#
# A client can only be idle for TIMEIDLE minutes before it is
# automatically logged out. Even if a client is not idle it can
# only be connected for a maximum of TIMEMAXM minutes.
# Either/Both values can be set to 0 to mean that the server will
# not timeout the client.
#
TIMEIDLE=0
TIMEMAXM=0
#
# Limits how many times per second the LAN server will service requests.
# Lowering this number will increase game performance for slower computers
# at the expense of sluggish response time from the server. Valid range is
# 1-1000.
#
LAN_THROTTLE=30
##------------------------------------------------------------------------
## DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING BELOW HERE
##------------------------------------------------------------------------
ACCOUNT=1
MASTER=1
SLAVE=1
REDIR=1
#
# This line allows the server to determine on what interface to listen for
# connections. It can be any publicly routable IP address (this is the case
# even if the host is on a LAN that is isolated from the Internet). There is
# no communication attempted with the IP address listed here.
#
If this doesnt work, Post here and Ill see what i can do, This btw enables both
server and client to play. Enjoy Guys. Prehaps worth a sticky Razz
Regards,
SystemX
